Saving on your wedding!

You wouldn't tell by reading my blog, but, I AM GETTING MARRIED. That's right, Jason and I are going to be tying the knot after 8 years! The wedding is in less than 3 months and this entire process has been a learning experience. I have done most of the planning on my own. In this time I realized that spending a lot of money on a wedding is far from necessary. My budget for everything is $3,000. Here are ways to have a beautiful wedding and reception without the cost.

1. Don't go to bridal shops. You wear the dress for less than 12 hours and it sits in a closet never to be worn again. I went to a local second hand store. I know what you are thinking...gross, right? Well the dress is brand new and is a Allure Bridal gown. It is exactly what I was looking for and I could afford. My dress was $100 and when you see it, your jaw will hit the floor. That's ok though, I will pick it back up for you!!!

You can also check out, and for dresses. You will be shocked at how many dresses are new!

2. 50% off coupons to Michael's have became my friend! I bought 48 votives with candles for $12. I am going to buy labels and put our monogram on them. I have also bought our initials and going to hang then on the bridge that we will walk over for our ceremony.

3. Don't do the food yourself. I was going to do this until I realized how affordable catering is. Now I am doing a buffet, bought our own plates, napkins, utensils, etc. to save money. I also realized having the caterer do a unlimited beverage bar can't be beat either. Even with pop on sale, I was only saving $75. Plus that doesn't include ice, coolers or having someone go ice down the beverages. I am using Golden Rule Catering and they have been wonderful! The owner, Carol, is also a couponer!!!

4. BUY a suit. I have also come to realize that a tux is not an option for Jason. We are going to buy him a suit from JOS Bank. They are always running a BOGO special. That way he has a suit to wear for the next couple of years. The cost of renting a suit vs. buying a tux is about a $25-$50 difference.

5. Don't do a traditional wedding cake. Our caterer includes a sheet cake in the price of the buffet. We are either going to buy a few cheesecakes to display or just diplay a fake cake!!! Jason really wants cheesecake, so I think he might win on this one!

6. Last, but, not least. Flowers. Do them yourself. If you don't trust your work, find a crafty friend or relative. If you need a lot of flowers I recommend The Flower Exchange. They will deliver them to your door a day or two before the wedding. Put them together and clear the fridge! Also, if you don't need that many flowers check out your local Kroger or Sam's Club. I spoke with the Manager in the Floral dept. at Kroger and she was excited about helping me. I am going to her in Sept. to figure out what flowers I want!

7. Favors are a big PIA! I am doing simple and sweet! BUCKEYES! Who doesn't love some chocolate? I am also debating on doing a strawberry jam and putting them in the middle of the table with the votives. The estimated cost of this is about $40 for 1500 Buckeyes.

I have spent $8 for my shoes at Kohls, $100 for my dress (taking it on Thurs. to get altered), $50 in decorations, $10 on Hannah's dress, food/beverage with a cash bar will be around $1500.

At the end of the day, it's not about all the details. It's about Jason and I declaring our love and devotion for one another. We have always put everyone else's needs ahead of our own and now it is OUR TIME! We are finally becoming a family and I can't wait to marry this man!

Bounce Dryer Bar

I received a Bounce Dryer Bar in the mail from Vocalpoint. I'll be the first to admit, I was skeptical when I first received it. I thought for sure once you peeled the back off and stuck it in the dryer that it was sure to come off and fly around. But, it has not! The smell is wonderful and not overpowering. The Bounce Dryer Bar also leaves our clothes soft and not staticy (if that is even a word!?!) The best part of it is, I don't have to search for the dryer sheets!

For more information or to purchase a Bounce Dryer Bar click here.

My 150th Post!!!

I want to take a minute and reflect on my coupon journey.

I started coupon exactly a year ago. My FSIL, Dena, helped me get started and shared some of her favorite Q blogs with me. She also introduced me to The night I discovered it, I would not get off the computer. I couldn't believe all the information and I wanted to learn all that I could.

I decided at that moment I was going to do this. I started off by using Q's at Kroger. My 2nd shopping trip was a Mega Sale and I saved 85%. I couldn't believe it and had to call Dena. She was the only one who appreciated it. Jason, my fiance, thought I was nuts. So, the next time I went he tagged along to see what the fuss was about. I put all my goods on the belt and made sure I gave the cashier all my coupons. At this time Jason took Hannah and walked toward the front of the store. I think he was embarassed with what was about to happen. The cashier started deducting my Q's. The gentleman behind me said "Would you mind letting me know how much you saved?" I agreed and finally got my total. It was $45.67. I smiled and paid and told the gentleman I just saved $108, $68 being in Q's. (Yes, I saved that receipt!)

I was so excited I was jumping inside. I couldn't believe I had done this on my 4th shopping trip.

I have learned so much in this time. The most important thing I came to realize early on is to buy a minimum of 2 papers. If it was a really good week, I would buy 4. Always buy a even amount of papers, that way when you run upon the BOGO you can use 2 Q's!

I have since hooked my friend Danielle on Q's. We love to go couponing together and get excited when we spot a REALLY good deal. She even with with me at 10:30 pm to the Bigg's Triple event. We had a fun night that night!

I also am very lucky to be able to spread my fortune. I have been getting free to very cheap items to donate to a local ministry. It feels really good to be able to help so many others who are in need. I have donated free deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, cereal, feminine products, soup, and many other misc. items.

I started this blog to help my friends and family save money. Now I want to help anyone who wants to become educated on saving money. In this economy everyone deserves to keep every extra cent in their bank accounts.

I am going to be devoting 2 hours to my blog everyday to keep you updated on the latest deals, freebies, printables, etc. You may notice that the blog is different and going to be adding features in the next few weeks.

I made my first blog button yesterday! This is the final one!

Thank you for those of you who have been reading and if you are new to Cincinnati Coupons, Welcome. I hope you enjoy your stay. Feel free to ask questions. Chances are if you are thinking it, someone else is too!

All You Grocery Challenge

I just missed entering the All You Grocery Challenge. But you can still keep track of your spending by clicking here. You can keep track on money/food spent. This will show you what areas you can spend less on.
The challenge started today and the rules are really simple. You can't spend anymore than $25 per family member. This is only on groceries that you purchase that will count toward your weekly total. You can grow, barter or use stockpiled food to supplement your meals.

If you eat at a restaurant or buy takeout, the cost must go toward the week's total. Note that, household supplies and toiletries do not count toward each weeks total.

If you signed up for the Challenge report back and let us know how you are doing!
